Green River Vacations

Camping With Western River Expeditions

Whether you’re a veteran camper or experiencing sleeping in the outdoors for the first time, Western makes camping simple. All you need to worry about is packing your personal items in a soft-sided duffle bag. We’ll supply the rest:

  • Comfortable cots make sleeping and relaxing on the river easy.
  • Roomy tents are always available and easy to set up. You may be like many of our river guests who prefer to sleep under the vast canopy of stars. If you haven’t ever experienced camping in the desert you’ll be surprised at how dry and comfortable everything stays when sleeping under the stars.
  • Freshly laundered sleeping bags and sheets provide warmth on cool evenings.
  • Water-resistant bags protect your personal belongings from exposure to sand and water.
  • A personal day-use bag keeps important items handy during the day.
  • Camp chairs offer comfortable seating while in camp.
  • A sturdy vinyl ground cloth keeps your gear and camping areas clean (not shown above).
  • Toilet facilities are available from the time we pull into camp until we leave the following day. A portable toilet and hand wash system that is set up each day in camp in a secluded location that assures privacy.

To ensure you have a pleasurable and comfortable camping experience, Western will provide a detailed camping orientation before your first night in camp.

Accommodations at Red Cliffs Lodge

While the West is best known for its rugged landscape and hardy adventures, staying at the Red Cliffs Lodge is anything but primitive. Every room at Red Cliffs Lodge has a soothing view of either the Colorado River (just 100 feet away) or Castle Creek, which runs through the property. The scenery is both spectacular and private.

In addition, each room and suite is designed to capture the frontier spirit of the West, with solid log furniture, knotty pine accents and muted stucco palettes. But because even the most adventurous traveler craves a little civilization, every suite and cabin at the Lodge is stocked with plenty of genteel pleasures.

Ever luxury room is a mini suite featuring:

  • Separate kitchenette
  • Coffee pot
  • Refrigerator
  • Microwave
  • Air-conditioner
  • Separate dining area
  • Fully tiled bathrooms with bathtub/showers
  • Carpet/Mexican Satillo Tile throughout

Dining with Western River Expeditions
Enjoy delicious breakfast on the river

Breakfast

Steaming French pressed coffee provides welcome warmth to counter the cool sand between your toes. You might think you're still dreaming when you see plates of steaming flapjacks, fresh fruit and scrambled eggs, but it's the way every morning on the river begins. Western's guides are not only trained river professionals, they're talented campfire cooks as well. And Western always serves fresh food on all river adventures.

Lunch is prepared fresh each day

Lunch

A wonderful selection of fresh meats and cheeses, delicious breads, along with crisp vegetables and a variety of spreads satisfy hearty lunchtime appetites after a morning in the canyon. Tasty chicken and veggie wraps or perhaps chicken salad pitas may also be part of Western's mid-day buffet. At all times, unlimited quantities of icy lemonade and fresh water are available to quench your thirst.

Delicious dinners are the perfect end to a wonderful day

Dinner

While you enjoy delectable appetizers and relax and at the river's edge, the guides prepare a dinner that is sure to surprise and please. Every night is different, but the menu will likely include grilled chicken breasts, tender steaks, pasta, or fresh fish accompanied by tossed green salad with your choice of dressing, vegetables, and side dishes. Dutch-oven cake and cobblers or other scrumptious desserts deliciously top off the evening meal.

Our vacation was amazing. The water and canyons were beautiful and endless. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing half the time. Living in a city for a while, you forget what untouched beauty still remains remarkable. It was so relaxing to just lay back on the boat and watch the scenery slowly creep by. Camping was also a lot of fun, especially the food and entertainment.
