"This Trip Was Life-Changing for me"

I loved this trip! I really came for the nature of the Canyon - I really am not the sort who couldn't wait for the next rapid! I felt our guides created an excellent set up for folks like me to have fun (learning about the geology, seeing the Big Horn sheep up close, etc) and for those in it for the excitement of the river running. This was truly a trip of a lifetime for me. I was "happy to the very deepest part of me" as put by one of my fellow river runners! It changed my view of life - put what is important into perspective.

"I Fulfilled my Dream of Rafting the Grand Canyon"

For years we have wanted to make this trip down through the heart of the Grand Canyon by way of the Colorado River. It was as magnificent as we had hoped. From the thrill of riding Hermit, Chrystal and Lava rapids, the lullaby of the river and symphony of stars at night, the bounty of food, and the competence, wit and good humor of the guides......it was truly a memorable week. And as we flew out of the Canyon, there was a certain part of me that I wanted to stay just a little bit longer.

"This Trip Should be on Everyone's Bucket List!"

This was a trip of a lifetime and everyone in our family would put it at the top of their list. This should be on everyone's bucket list. Sleeping under the stars at night was awesome. Our guides were great fun to be with and really knew the Grand Canyon history and geology. We were amazed at how great the meals were and surprised that everything was cooked from scratch. I did this trip 28 years ago with Western River Expeditions and have always wanted to take my whole family so that they could also experience the trip and it was as great this time as it was back then. Western River Expeditions knows how to do things right.

"Daddy Made Me Do it"

My dad was turning 50- (sorry dad) and he wanted to do a family trip of a lifetime. First let me explain my type of vacation. It would include a beach, suntan lotion, and a good book. My ideal trip would not include sleeping outside with scary creatures and bugs, going to the washroom in a box, and sitting on a raft for 7 days. So, when my dad first told me about this family trip, needless to say I was extremely nervous and not happy. Hey, I was 20 years old and a sophomore in college and was already taking on the world...by college, not by raft facing class 10 rapids.

Needless to say, I the bratty teenager/young adult who loved/loves to complain had the most amazing trip ever. It is incredible how your new family on your raft becomes such a large part of your life. You hold onto strangers who you have barely spoken 10 words with but in the face of danger, are your life support. The first night I didn't think I was going to make it. I was the only person out of the entire group that made their family set up a tent for their child. You better believe I slept inside that 900 degree tent that night and my family laughed at me- oh, i deserved it.

I learned to appreciate the beautiful skies without the coverings of roofs, tents, or even blankets. I was amazed that without my contacts, I could see thousands of stars on a nightly basis. How taking the "scenic view" to the bathroom is "so much cooler" than using the washroom in a moth-infested tent. How I could remember how much I loved my family and needed them by spending more than 2 hours with them, but rather a whole week. To make those necessary foundations with my parents and re-instate their faith/confidence/and trust in me.

The people that I met on this trip were the most amazing, beautiful, kind hearted, and personable people I have ever met. I love my dad for pushing me to go on this Grand Canyon trip. I love my brothers for putting up with my needing them to kill scary bugs at night. My ever increasing love for my step mother who would go to the washroom with me at midnight because the night is scary haha. To the kindness of strangers who became my extended family and looked "fear" in the eye with me. Who held my hand when there was not one, not two, but three enormous waves coming straight toward us. To everyone on that trip who showed me that life has so much more to offer than iPods, iPhones, television, etc. Thank you for making my life so much more enriching, your kindness has not gone un-noticed. I miss the laughs, the stories, and the people...my extended rafting family.

"Solo, But Never Alone"

In 2007 I met a friend who told me he'd been on this life-changing trip rafting down the Colorado River. I was in the mood for some life changing, so after hearing tales of Lava and Hance and "riding on the front" I signed up with Western River Expeditions. Thing is, none of my friends were interested, so I just signed up solo. But from the moment I arrived, I was never alone. I met some amazing people that week - an incredible family from Wisconsin, a veteran rafter and her daughter-in-law and her mom, and loads of other people who became quick friends over fire lines and lemonade. I count those six days rafting down the Colorado as some of the best times I've ever had - by land or by boat. I have never laughed so hard (or held on so tight) as I did rafting those amazing rapids, hiking side canyons, and lounging around at night. Great trip, great times!

Incredible, breathtaking, the most magical place on earth. I wasn’t sure how this vacation would stack up to others, but after spending 6 days in that canyon it was without a doubt the best vacation of my life. I don’t think I would be saying that were it not for our fabulous guides. If you are thinking about taking this trip do it. Whether you love being outdoors or love air conditioning and email like myself you will love this trip. Thanks everyone for great food, fun, family, and friends.
